Thanks to a large-scale renovation and modernization project implemented by the Fund in 2016, the Tchaikovsky Music School, Armenia’s largest secondary music school, has been transformed into a world-class conservatory.
The building has undergone seismic retrofitting, a complete structural redesign, and a slew of upgrades. The improvements have encompassed a new roof, new doors and windows, and new heating, air-conditioning, electrical, water, plumbing, and security systems. Other significant enhancements have included the addition of an elevator and evacuation staircases. The main building of the campus has been thoroughly modernized and now features a sizeable foyer. The renovations have also comprised the reconstruction of the gym and the transformation of the concert hall into a state-of-the-art auditorium, complete with a new stage and amenities for performers and audiences alike. Thanks to the refurbishments, the school’s symphony orchestra, string quartet, brass band, choir, and jazz band now have comfortable and fully appointed rehearsal rooms.
The school’s grounds renovations resulted in the installation of wheelchair ramps at the entrance of the school, a completely upgraded lighting system throughout the grounds, and the installation of pavilions and benches in the inner courtyard.
Artistic touches, including a relief sculpture on the facade of the main building, created by architect Jim Torossian, as well as the interior relief sculpture and stained-glass windows, continue to lend the school an aesthetic character all its own.
Today, the school has more than 600 students. As a rule, most graduates continue their education and pursue a career in music. The school’s alumni have included Eduard Tadevosyan, Ruben Altunyan, Vahram Sarajev, Jean Ter-Merguerian, Levon Chaushyan, Sergey Smbatyan, Tigran Hamasyan, Aram Talalyan, Vahagn Hayrapetyan, Armen Babakhanyan, Stepan Lusikyan, Karen Hakobyan, Haik Arsenyan, Sofya Melikyan, Lilit Kurdyan, and other musical giants who are the pride of the Armenian people.
The Hayastan All Armenian Fund provides a continuous assistance to the music school.
With support from its French affiliate and Armenia Fund USA, the Fund donated one Estonia Grand and nine Petroff pianos to the school in 2016. Earlier, in 2011, the school was provided with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment as well as new instruments, comprising seven violins, two violas, one cello, two French horns, and two oboes, through the sponsorship of the Fund’s Swiss affiliate.

The Hayastan Fund continues to support Yerevan’s Tchaikovsky Music School. During 2017, the Fund provided the school with 33 pianos, which will help raise the quality of education at the school.
