Excitement and anticipation fill the air as students and teachers of the school of Arjut, in Armenia, have gathered outside to welcome some very special guests. Soon, the students are presented with school supplies gifted by Brazilian-Armenians. The donation complements an annually-implemented school-assistance program spearheaded by the British-Armenian community. The visitors to the school include Joao Carlos Boyadjian, the chairman of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s Brazilian affiliate; and Agemar de Mendonça Sanctos, the ambassador of Brazil to Armenia, who has been invited by Boyadjian to accompany him to Arjut.
After receiving a very warm welcome, Boyadjian and the ambassador distribute the gifts — backpacks filled with stationery — to the students. “As this is one of the most wonderful projects carried out by the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, the Brazilian-Armenian community, too, wished to be a part of it,” Boyadjian says.
As the children are about to leave the campus for summer recess, cheerfully carrying their new backpacks, they make a promise to the guests: their notebooks will show nothing but high marks throughout the next school year.
