Martuni is one of the eight regions of Nagorno Karabakh Republic. The territory of the region is 951 square kilometers. According to 2005 statistics the population is 23,157. The regional center is Martuni town. Martuni region borders Khachen in the North, Shushi in the East and Dizak in the South-West.
Sos village with total population of 1042 is located 22 km from Martuni town and 38 km from Stepanakert.

During Artsakh Liberation War, 38 members of Sos village sacrificed their lives defending their home community. As a result of devastating bombardments of the Azeri side, the village was ravaged. In particular, the school building was critically damaged and the kindergarten had to be transformed into a hospital for wounded soldiers.

After the war, the village slowly started to rebuild. There are a number of challenges facing the community today. The most urgent issue was the lack of potable water. This was an issue that needed to be addressed quickly and effectively as it directly affected the lives of all the community members. The village has never had an internal water network. The villagers carried water in buckets from a spring located in the village center.

Hayastan All Armenian Fund has initiated construction of drinking water internal distribution network in the village. The existing pump station is in satisfactory condition. An internal distribution network was constructed using polyethylene pipes. In addition, a new daily regulation reservoir was constructed and fenced out.
