Hayastan All-Armenian Fund rebuilds war-ravaged Mataghis villageA high-priority project for which the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund sought to raise support through its 2016 Telethon and other fundraising events was the reconstruction of Artsakh communities impacted by the Four-day War. The project is well underway, and currently the fund is refurbishing 34 homes in Mataghis, a village in Artsakh’s Martakert Region. The homes are being rebuilt with funds raised from the French-Armenian community during the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s 2016 Pan-European Phoneathon, and additional support by the government of Nagorno Karabakh.
The rebuilding of Mataghis started earlier with the refurbishment of the community’s school, which was heavily damaged during the war. The repairs were carried out with the support of Toronto’s Armenian community — the same community that had sponsored the construction of the school in 2006. In addition, a Toronto benefactor has recently donated an ambulance to Mataghis.
In parallel with the rebuilding of war-damaged Artsakh communities, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund continues to implement numerous other development and assistance projects throughout the homeland, including the construction of single-family houses for large, economically vulnerable Artsakh families and the reconstruction of the Vardenis-Martakert Highway.
