Hayastan All-Armenian Fund establishes sewing and design classroom at Yerevan’s Special School No. 8
Through the sponsorship of HSBC Bank Armenia, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund has established a sewing and design classroom at Yerevan’s Special School No. 8, an institution for children with speech disorders. As part of the project, the classroom has been equipped with all necessary furniture, sewing machines, accessories, and materials.

The classroom’s expert instructors state that obtaining sewing and design skills not only serve as a good foundation for students to pursue a full-fledged vocational education in the future, but help them overcome certain psychological barriers and build self-confidence.

In 2014, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund created a culinary classroom at the school, with the financial support of benefactor Hovsep Himidian of Argentina. Today, several alumni of the culinary program are employed at various restaurants.

“Parallel to their secondary education, our students receive vocational training, which gives them great skills to participate more fully in the daily lives of their families, and, as importantly, helps them decide on a profession to eventually specialize in,” says Varduhi Kheboyan, the school’s principal. She adds that she is delighted to see the infectious enthusiasm with which the students receive their vocational trainings and look after one another. For instance, the principal says, students of the sewing and design program make aprons and tablecloths for fellow students in the culinary program, while the latter prepare delicious meals for the future tailors and designers.

Currently the school has 120 students. It also provides room and board for students from economically vulnerable families as well as those who come from various regions of Armenia.

The Hayastan All-Armenian Fund has been a supporter of the school since 2011, with assistance projects including donations of computer systems and stationery.
