The Children of Harjis Received Assistance from British-Armenian CommunityHarjis is located in Syunik region and has a population of 830. The name of the village has several meanings. The principal of Harjis School, Norayr Yesayan, tells a beautiful story about the village’s name. The legend says that since the 10th century, there was a secret road, leading to Tatev Monastery, and secondly there were silver reserves in the area. Both these facts led to name the village “Haris”, the equivalent of the word “arjeq”, “value” in Armenian.
The Hayastan All-Armenian Fund employees visited the valuable village on August 10 with valuable gifts. The 82 students of Harjis School, received school consumables including rucksacks and various stationery items as gifts from the British-Armenian community. The children opened the schoolbags with great enthusiasm, and they found pens, boxes, watercolors, plasticine, albums, scrapbooks, pens and more in their bags.
The Harjis School has been functioning since the 1960s and has not been renovated since then. The Hayastan All-Armenian Fund has donated stationery to villages in different regions of Armenia by choosing border villages or socially vulnerable villages for ten years. The program is funded by the Fund’s British affiliate. In the past decadde, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s British affiliate has donated packages of school consumables and stationery to students in Armenia’s Shirak, Lori, Tavush, Vayots Dzor, Syunik and Aragatsotn regions. This year's program included the villages of Harjis and Ishkhanasar in the Syunik Region.
After distributing schoolbags to schoolchildren in Ishkhanasar and Harjis villages, 14 bags were left and they were distributed to preschool-aged children of the same two villages.
