Hayastan Fund reconstructs Stepanakert School No.9
Hayastan Fund is carrying out extensive renovations in Stepanakert School No. 9. The project, launched in August 2015, was made possible with sponsorship of Armenia Fund, Inc. benefactor Gerald Turpanjian, with additional financing from Nagorno-Karabakh government.
Stepanakert’s School No. 9 is a multifunctional institution, providing not only primary and secondary education, but also inclusive education for special-needs children and specialized classes for hearing-impaired children. Currently, as the fund rebuilds two of the school’s wings, its 385 students (including the nine hearing-impaired children, 20 special-needs children), and 53 kindergarteners temporarily attend classes in the third building of the campus.
School principal Artur Antonyan comments: ”The school had not seen a major repair or renovation since its set-up 1974 and was in a state of severe disrepair. It was impossible to organize effective learning process and school events in those conditions. We are grateful to the benefactors and Hayastan Fund for this initiative. It is pretty tough to have studies under current conditions, but we do our best to proceed with our studies properly. In the beginning of March we managed to hold an event devoted to the Armenian Language, and received a certificate from the relevant ministry as an appreciation for our efforts".

Currently the building, including the floors, is undergoing complete reinforcement for seismic endurance, as well as internal walls are being constructed. The roof of the second block is being dismantled to be replaced with a new one. The major makeover also includes the construction of a boiler room, the reconstruction of the gym and renovations of the school grounds.
